A Description of Jay’s Artwork
Regardless of the era, the image of the American soldier has always inspired me. While in college working on my Fine Art degree, I began drawing pictures of the American soldier. Throughout the past two decades while drawing veterans’ pictures I have spent a great deal of time with veterans of all ages listening to their stories, looking though their pictures and deeply appreciating their sacrifice.
It was through this process that I decided to use whatever talent, influence and resources that I had to honor them- to assist in remembering, and recording their military experience, while also working to help them heal from whatever wounds they may have.
What began simply as drawing veterans’ pictures has grown into this journal project. It my sincerest hope that this effort will “bring honor to whom honor is due.”
